Tree Repair - Bracing & Cabling

In their natural forest habitat, trees are left to fend for themselves against the elements and thrive under natural conditions without outside help. Luckily your property is not the forest! We can help trees recover from damage due to the elements or otherwise and extend their longevity.

This is done by improving its structural integrity. When not maintained, they grow freely and sometimes to a point that their physical structure might fail, straining to support growth it just can’t handle. This can lead to stress fractures, cracked limb structure and misalignment. Or perhaps the tree has a poor branching habit or is simply prone to decay. It might have a heavy yield of fruit adding significant weight to its branches and thus undue stress. Improper pruning can also be the culprit of structural failure.

Even those without obvious, visible structural deficiency may fail at some point causing unexpected damage. This can be from the structural failure of a weighty or large limb, weak root system or fracture causing damage to property or worse – harming people.  The structural deficiency will likely cause its overall health to decline in time. Our professional arborists are equipped with the know how to spot structural deficiencies in trees and address them with the proper methods.

What is cabling and bracing?

Just as the name might sound, cables and rods are utilized to add support to a tree with a weak structure or that has potential for failure. Cables are engineered between limbs to redistribute the weight loads using stronger branches or the solidity of the its trunk to support one another. Rods similarly add support, bolting splitting limbs together to prevent further fracturing or failing.

Cabling and bracing is meant as support to prolong the structural integrity of the tree however is not a forever solution. It will never have the same structural integrity before the stress was placed on it, however these methods will surely add strength, support and prolong it health.

Our arborists know just what to look for in inspecting structural adequacy and how to properly brace and repair. Additionally, just as they are exposed to deteriorating elements, so is the hardware used in cabling and bracing. Nuts, bolts, rods, cables can weather or corrode over time. Additionally, tension in cables can decrease with the forces placed on them from the movement of branches in the wind affecting their ability to carry and distribute load.

It’s important to inspect hardware each Spring and determine if replacement is needed as to prevent damage to your tree, property or family.
